I want to be a Master painter or Ode to a Brilliant Teacher

No No..that's not the teacher. That's the little painting I produced during a one day workshop at the BohemiArte Gallery and school in the heart of Old Montreal. The workshop was on the painting method of 19th c. Master painter Bouguereau.
OOHHHH, I want to be a master too! Well, for anyone interested in producing finely crafted paintings, this is the place. BohemiArte is owned and run by Master painter Irena Korosec and the school is an ACR (Art Renewal Center) approved atelier. That's a big deal. There are only 2 ateliers of this caliber in Canada and only a handful worldwide. One look at the artwork displayed in the gallery would convince anyone that brilliance in art is not dead. As someone who has studied and mastered the painting techniques of traditional Old Masters, Irena is carrying on the tradition by passing on a time honoured approach to art.
As a self-taught painter, I am not exactly a teachers dream student. Self-taught painters tend to be set in their ways and have "bad" art habits.  So major kudos go to Irena for being able to teach me the method as well as explain the concept behind it. For me understanding the concept (why it works the way it does) is key to being able to learn enough in one day to carry on in my own studio. I feel as though I have been given a gift worth so much more than the price of admission.
Add to that a location in Old Montreal with it's cobbled streets and old world charm, a warm welcome, wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and great conversation and you have a perfect combination for learning.
The school boasts 2 teachers,  Irena Korosec and Jane Kavanaugh (Hi Jane!) who offer full time courses in painting and drawing as well as weekend workshops.
If you are interested in learning old master techniques, visit the Art Renewal Center and find one near you.

Oh yeah, and Irena owns 3 Daschunds (doxies, weiner dogs, teckels), so you KNOW she's OK in my book. She even got to meet Jasper (who was a bit shy).
